We all definitely know that dogs and cats don’t really get along especially if both animals are not socialized. It’s uncommon to see dogs being okay with cats living under the same roof and it’s even more unusual when dogs and cats become friends. However, there are cases when these things happen and it’s definitely one of the most adorable friendships that you will ever see.
A dog named Pela is like most dogs who don’t like cats. However, when Pela’s mom, Valia Orfanidou, took two rescue cats home, Pela started to warm up to cats and eventually accepted them to live in the house. Valia wasn’t too worried about Pela being with cats since she knew that Pela naturally has a gentle soul. However, Valia was in for a surprise when Pela did something that was completely out of character.
While Valia took Pela out for a walk, they came across a tiny stray kitten. The kitten, later named Ruby, was blind and was all alone trying to survive in the streets of Greece. Ruby didn’t stand a chance since she was still so tiny and she was blind. Pela was the first one who saw Ruby and she immediately led her mom towards the kitten.
It seemed like Pela knew that Ruby needed help and when Pela met Ruby, the two instantly made a connection. Pela refused to leave Ruby’s side until Ruby got the help she needed. Of course, Valia’s heart broke the moment she saw the kitten and she immediately thought of things that could happen to the kitten if she didn’t do anything to help it.
Luckily for the kitten, Valia runs an animal rescue organization in Greece called SCARS. Valia and a group of volunteers have helped creatures like Ruby before. So, Valia took Ruby back to the SCARS facility where she was fed and given all the necessary care she needed to survive. Ruby also got plenty of love from the volunteers.
Thanks to Pela, Valia was able to find Ruby and rescue her. Once Ruby makes a full recovery, she will become available for adoption. Here’s a heartwarming video telling the story of how a dog saved a kitten’s life which gave the kitten another chance at finding a forever home and having a happy life.
