Jameson was a 100-pound beagle that lived with the elderly. He was always given hamburgers and cream to eat which was probably the reason why he was obese. Luckily, Erin and Chad, a dog-loving couple, had experience with obese Beagles.
Jameson’s story
Erin and Chad had been rescuing, fostering, and rehabilitating Beagles for over a decade. They have experience with numerous obese Beagles so when they heard about Jameson’s case, they couldn’t resist helping.
Because of Jameson’s weight, his two back knees were torn. He wasn’t able to walk properly so he only took a few steps before laying back down.
Jameson was only a few months old and because of his weight, he couldn’t experience the traditional puppyhood of playing with other dogs. He would playfully swat his foster brothers but was incapable of running with them.
It was hard for Erin and Chad to see Jameson in his state so they consulted a vet. The vet recommended replacing both torn knees so Jameson could have a better chance at gaining his goal weight.
Journey to recovery
The couple was anxious yet excited for Jameson’s knee replacement. It took a couple of weeks for Jameson to heal after the procedure, but he was so happy he ran towards his foster mother.
Once the vet confirmed that Jameson was ready to go for long walks, Erin took Jameson out daily for a 1km walk. A few days passed and Jameson wanted to go further so their 1 km walks turned into 5 km.
It didn’t take long before Jameson reached his goal weight. Thanks to a strict diet and constant exercise, Jameson was finally able to catch up with his dog friends.
Erin and Chad were proud that they were a part of Jameson’s journey. Jameson blossomed into a more playful and affectionate pup once he gained the confidence brought by his weight loss.
